Collaborations
Over the last 20 years or so the IT industry has lost its way.
Businesses need quality, value and professionalism but these have
become very much secondary to their suppliers' need to sell and make
profit to the point that most businesses have ended up with
expensive but compromised IT based business solutions. There are a
few of us who still believe in the 'old-fashioned' standards and
that profit is a by-product of doing a good job, not the prime
motivator, however these people are becoming fewer and fewer but
before they disappear altogether there is perhaps a chance to revive
them and the integrity of the IT industry. We have become a very
small voice and the exception rather than the rule but we can and
must do something about this situation. We can make a difference but
we need to mobilise and find ways of working together.
The
IT industry has become preoccupied with skills and technology but business solutions are
best provided by a mixture of generalists and specialists with
functional and technical skills and and very importantly experience.
